From My Workbench - 07/2008

The July/August issue is out so you can read my article on the hardware from the movie, 2001: A Space Odyssey. Unfortunately, due to space constraints, you won't be reading my other article on building a model of

the One Man EVA Pod from the same movie. This was a very fun build for a couple of reasons; 1) 2001 is my favorite movie of all time, 2) The resin kit that I worked with was made by Scott Alexander of Atomic City Models - a very talented model maker, and 3) The lighted interior was basically built from scratch. I was very pleased with the final model pictured here. Perhaps there will be room to run the article in a future issue or maybe it will be made available here on the web site.

But for now I'm off to my next project - one that flies.

You might be wondering what that project is but I'm not going to go into details right now.  I will say that it is a mid-power project that also involves some electronics and it takes some things to the next level. It will be a complex but reasonably affordable project. More on this as it progresses.

Due to health issues I was unable to attend NARAM this year so I have missed the Old Rocketeers Reunion. I'm somewhat bummed out by that as I would have loved to have had a chance to meet some of the people that I used to read about in the old Model Rocketry Magazine. From what I have seen at the NARAM Live web site the gathering was a complete success. Still, not all was lost for me. The good people at SEMROC sent me a Mark and a Gee'Hod to occupy my time as I recover - I thank them for their kind support.
